Fluorescent Tube (UV-A Nail Lighting) is a mercury discharge lamp which emits ultra violet light source or wavelength 365nm. Ultra violet is emitted and control by the powder coated on the lamp body to create the desired UV spectrum. UVA light source have a very big scope application. They are used in forensics, photocopying and a broad range of industrial use. The most popular usage of UVA is a nail lamp light source used to enhance solidification of nail polish. UVA lamp is available in different lamp shape, which can be T5, T8, PL-S and PL-L lamps. They work with most electronic ballast in the market and some small wattages can work with magnetic ballast. Solid state mercury (amalgam) could be used to improve safety, stability and environmentally friendliness of the product.

Ultra violet lamp is light on base on low-pressure mercury vapor discharge mechanism, which it is mandatory to work with an external device, which can be either magnetic ballast or electronic ballast. When power is connected, high temperature is created at the inner filament at both end of the tube. The high temperature vaporize mercury inside the tube to form a complete circuit inside the tube, which ionized mercury will emit ultra violet when hitting on the UV powder coated on the glass tube.

The body of UVA lamp is made of powder coated glass fitted with aluminum end caps. For powder, we use UVA powder which could effective filter UVB and UVC and remain a spectrum peaked at 365nm. Ultraviolet lamp can reach 360° beam angle, which allows it to be used with most fixture using G5, G13. G23, GX23, 2G7 and 2G11 lamp bases.

UV lamp work in the present of a ballast, which could be a magnetic ballast or an electronic ballast. Typically, T4, T5, T6, PL-S, PL-L UV lamp use electronic ballast (unless the tube power is low, magnetic ballast could be use). While T8, T10 and T12 UV lamp can work with both electronic ballast and magnetic ballast. Magnetic ballast needs to be used together with a start to trigger initiation high voltage for the tube the light on. A UV lamp on average have a lifetime 8,000 to 12,000 hours.

UVA lamp has a wide range of applications. For example, they are used in photocopying machine to assist ink or powder are firmly attached to printed papers. Also, they are used in nail machine to enhance solidification of the nail polish. UVA light source can also be used to identify anti-counterfeiting features on paper money or identification documents. They can also be used to identify fluorescent material used in textile industry. For reptile breeding, UV light source is necessary for vitamin D synthesis and calcium absorption of reptile for proper bone development.
